# (Part 2) You must be a specialist in one thing or mediocre in various: the worst advice that you already hear —- Part 2

    Excellent question.

Have you heard about such of Leonardo Da Vinci yet? Yes, we’re talking about the one major genius of history. The person that valorized the universal knowledge and the multi-disciplinary. He’s, simply, the reborn symbol

Besides Leonardo Da Vinci, we’ve also Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, and also Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and various others.

And talking about Mr. Gates - “Let’s Bill (Brazilian Meme)” - one of your last recommendations of the reading was the book “Why generalists beats a world of specialists”, written by David Epstein (not Jeffrey Epstein - remove the Netflix from the head), that talks about the same matter.

“But, what does the market want?”

When we participate in the hiring process in the tech area, commonly, we have a step called “pair interview”. The challenge is proposed and the resolution of the challenge is followed live. Contrary to what most think, the most valued in the step is the soft skills: how the candidate behaves in moments of pressure.

Day after day, soft skills are improved and valued in the market environment, because it’s efficiency and efficacy synonyms.

In the book “How make friends and influence people”, Dale Carnegie, since the 30 decade, already talked about the ability of the relationship. He talked about the executive case that worked (don’t remember his name) who had only primary education, but your salary was more than the engineers of the company. And what is your secret? The ability to manage relationships. In other words, your soft skills.

Therefore, being a generalist means: being professional and human more completely, aggregating more value in your work a personal environment, and that mindset change makes all the difference.
